NCC Targets 23.3 Million Unconnected Nigerians with Satellite Internet Services

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is focusing on connecting 23.3 million unconnected Nigerians through satellite technology to address coverage gaps, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Airtel Africa and SpaceX's Starlink are set to introduce direct satellite phone services in Nigeria, starting in 2026.

This move is part of NCC's broader efforts to achieve universal access to voice and data services across the country. The technology is seen as a game-changer for Nigeria's disconnected regions, with plans to close coverage gaps by 2024.

Airtel Africa aims to be the first operator to offer Starlink-powered direct-to-device services.
