Saudi Arabia Declares Friday as Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

Saudi Arabia has officially declared Friday as Eid-el-Fitr, which signifies the conclusion of the Ramadan fasting period. This announcement was made through a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency on behalf of the country’s Supreme Court.

The decision follows the completion of 30 days of Ramadan, in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar tradition. The statement emphasized that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration is traditionally determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, which signals the end of the fasting period.

During Ramadan, Muslims are required to abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking during daylight hours, and the period is marked by acts of charity to support the less privileged. Saudi Arabia is home to Islam's two holiest sites: the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, where the Eid prayers will be widely observed.

The announcement comes amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which have heightened insecurity in the region.
