Kwankwaso Advocates Reconciliation Ahead of 2027 Elections

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), urged for reconciliation between Northern Nigeria and the Southeast during an interview with BBC Igbo. He highlighted the long-standing political alliances between the regions, referencing historical partnerships during Nigeria's First and Second Republics, notably involving leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe and Shehu Shagari.

Kwankwaso stressed the importance of forgiveness, particularly in the context of the civil war, stating that the nation must work together to overcome past grievances. He recalled his friendship with the late Alex Ekwueme and mentioned the need for political unity, especially as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso emphasized that the Southeast should not be viewed with hostility and called for collaboration among all regions, noting that political dynamics should not be defined by religious or regional divides.
