Nigerian Senate Approves Key Amendments to Bills

On Thursday, the Nigerian Senate approved significant amendments to the Pension, Health, and Teaching Hospitals Bills. The amendments were presented following a committee report during a plenary session led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Obehi Air Okafor was confirmed as the co-chairman of the governing council for the unclaimed fund trust fund. The legislative agenda focused on reforming public service and restructuring the pension framework.

The Senate also considered and approved a report from the committee on health, led by Banigo Palib from Harri River West, which aimed to improve the structure and coordination of secondary and tertiary healthcare services across the country. Additionally, the Senate adopted a report to establish a pension board under the Pension Act Amendment Bill 2026, which was presented by Cyril Oluwol Fasuyi.

The overall goal of these amendments is to strengthen governance and enhance efficiency within the Nigerian public service.
