Senate Confirms Joash Amupitan as INEC Chairman, Vows Electoral Reforms

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a rigorous screening session. Amupitan, a distinguished legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has promised to implement sweeping institutional reforms to restore public trust in Nigeria's electoral system.

He emphasized the need for an ethics compliance committee and vowed to establish an Electoral Offences Commission to investigate and prosecute electoral crimes. Amupitan also highlighted the importance of ensuring electoral integrity and accountability to enhance public confidence in the electoral process.

He called for the creation of a dedicated body with the mandate and resources to address electoral malpractices effectively.
