Senate Confirms Joash Amupitan as New INEC Chairman, Vows Electoral Reforms

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a rigorous screening session. Amupitan, a distinguished legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), vowed to implement sweeping institutional reforms to restore public trust in Nigeria's electoral system.

He emphasized the need for an ethics compliance committee and promised to establish an Electoral Offences Commission to investigate and prosecute electoral crimes. Amupitan also highlighted the importance of holding electoral officials accountable for misconduct and ensuring that electoral offences have consequences.
