Nigerian Senate Confirms New Service Chiefs Amid Calls for Military Reform

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abba as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Anek as Chief of Air Staff. The Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, praised the nominees' capabilities and the administration's commitment to security reforms.

The confirmation follows a closed-door session aimed at enhancing intelligence coordination and restoring public trust in the armed forces. The appointments were made following reports of a foiled coup plot.
