Nigerian Senate Confirms New Service Chiefs to Enhance National Security

The Nigerian Senate confirmed the appointment of new service chiefs nominated by President Bola Tinubu after a rigorous screening session. The new chiefs include Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abba as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Anek as Chief of Air Staff.

The Senate emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among the army, navy, and air force to improve national security. The service chiefs outlined strategies to combat terrorism, banditry, and security threats, promising modernization, intelligence-led operations, and enhanced maritime security to combat oil theft and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
