Senate Clarifies: Did Not Reject Electronic Transmission of Election Results, Akpabio Emphasizes Existing Provisions

Senate President Godswill Akpabio clarified that the Senate did not reject the electronic transmission of election results during the consideration of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. The Senate passed the bill after a marathon session lasting over four and a half hours.

Earlier reports had suggested that the Senate rejected the proposal requiring the President's office and INEC to transmit election results electronically. Akpabio emphasized that the Senate retained the existing provisions in the Electoral Act, ensuring the continuation of electronic transmission.

He urged the public not to be misled by misinformation circulating on social media and assured that the final vote details would be made available upon request. Akpabio stressed the importance of not regressing and maintaining the progress made in allowing electronic transmission of election results.
