Nigerian Senate Sets March 17 Deadline for ₦58.47 Trillion 2026 Budget Passage

The Nigerian Senate has scheduled March 17 as the deadline for passing the ₦58.47 trillion 2026 national budget. The Senate Committee on Appropriations, led by Senator Solomon Adeola, carefully structured the timeline for robust engagement with ministries, departments, agencies, and the public.

Public hearings on the budget estimates are set for February 2-13, with expert presentations by economists like Professor Wasiu Adeoy. The goal is to strengthen the economy, accelerate infrastructure delivery, improve security, and ensure fiscal discipline.

The Senate aims to align legislative and executive priorities for effective budget implementation. Committee chairmen are expected to submit defense reports by February 16-23, forming the basis for the final appropriation report to be presented on March 17.

Adeola sought a brief extension from the earlier proposed March 12 deadline to allow for a meticulous review of the budget.
