Senate Questions NWDC Over N943m Allowances and Delays

The Senate committee scrutinized the North West Development Commission (NWDC) regarding N943 million in board allowances and the lack of an executive director. During the session, committee chairman Babangida Hussaini expressed concerns about the commission's slow development interventions in the North West region, which is grappling with insecurity and infrastructure deficits.

Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahmadu, revealed ongoing disputes over office accommodations in Kano, where the NWDC has not yet established a fully functional management structure. The committee noted that despite the board's inauguration in February 2025, operational challenges persist.

The board, led by Prof. Abdullahi Ma Aji, defended its activities, claiming compliance with the NWDC Act 2024. However, lawmakers criticized the board for excessive spending and inadequate financial management, with N1.19 billion spent and N943 million allocated to board members.

The committee emphasized the need for immediate resolution of governance issues to enhance the commission's effectiveness.
