Senate Questions NWDC Over N943m Allowances and Delays

The Senate committee scrutinized the North West Development Commission (NWDC) regarding N943 million in board allowances and the absence of an executive director, which has hindered its operations. Committee Chairman Babangida Hussaini expressed concerns about the commission's financial management and the slow pace of development interventions in the North West region.

Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahmadu, revealed ongoing disputes over office accommodations in Kano, which have created friction between the commission and the state government. The NWDC was established to drive development across the region but has faced operational challenges due to the lack of a full management structure.

The board, inaugurated in February 2025, has held seven meetings but has struggled with implementing resolutions. The committee found the expenditure figures alarming, with N1.19 billion spent and N943 million allocated to board members, raising questions about the commission's effectiveness and financial accountability.
