Senate Warns of TETFund Revenue Decline Impacting Education

The Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has expressed alarm over the declining revenue available to TETFund, warning that it could impede infrastructure development in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Committee chairman Senator Mohammed Dandutshe raised these concerns during an oversight visit to Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos, where the committee inspected TETFund-funded projects and engaged with the institution's management, staff, and students.

Dandutshe indicated that the distribution amount for TETFund this year might be significantly lower than the previous year's allocation, which could affect infrastructure development in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. He emphasized the necessity for adequate education funding to achieve sustainable national development.

The committee's visit aimed to monitor project implementation and ensure transparency in public fund utilization. YABATECH's Rector, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, reported challenges due to a large student population and limited land space, leading to a strategic redevelopment program to modernize facilities.
