TETFund blocks institutions with stalled projects from 2027 funding cycle

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has announced that Nigerian tertiary institutions with incomplete or abandoned projects will be excluded from accessing fresh funding allocations in the 2027 intervention cycle. Board of Trustees Chairman Rt.

Hon. Aminu Bello Masari made the declaration as part of new enforcement measures designed to tackle the longstanding problem of delayed project execution across beneficiary institutions.

The fund's leadership has grown increasingly frustrated with institutions that have failed to meet project completion deadlines despite previous interventions. Under the new policy, schools must first finish all outstanding TETFund-backed initiatives before they can qualify to begin new projects in the upcoming allocation period.

Institutions have been directed to submit comprehensive lists of their overdue projects alongside written explanations for the delays. TETFund provides intervention funding to tertiary education institutions across Nigeria for infrastructure, equipment, and other developmental projects.

The persistent failure to complete projects on schedule has been identified as a significant drain on the fund's resources and its ability to support institutions equitably. The fund's leadership characterized the repeated delays as unacceptable and stated that stricter compliance measures were necessary.

The ban represents an escalation from previous efforts to improve project delivery timelines. Institutions that have maintained compliance with project deadlines will continue to be eligible for new allocations under the 2027 cycle.

The fund has not publicly specified timelines for how long the exclusion will remain in effect or under what conditions institutions with delayed projects can regain eligibility for new funding.
