Nigerian Senate Rejects Electronic Transmission of Election Results Proposal

The Nigerian Senate has rejected a proposal to amend the Electoral Act that would require the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit election results electronically. The Senate decided to maintain the existing provision, which mandates the manual transmission of election results.

Senator Tahir Monguno of Borno State, representing the APC, proposed the amendment to remove the electronic transmission aspect. The rejection means that the President's office will continue to transfer election results, including the total number of accredited voters and ballot results, in the manner prescribed by the Commission.

The decision follows a series of amendments made by the Senate, ultimately retaining the original provision for manual transmission.
