E-Transmission of Election Results Now Mandatory in Nigeria

On Tuesday, Rotimi Akin, the spokesman for the House of Representatives, confirmed during an interview that the electronic transmission of election results is now mandatory as per the provisions passed by the National Assembly. This confirmation comes after lawmakers disagreed on a motion seeking to rescind the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which was initially passed by the House of Representatives in December.

The Senate had recently passed a different version of the bill, leading to certain discrepancies between the two legislative bodies. The House of Representatives' standing orders require a committee to harmonize positions, which includes members from both the House and the Senate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the electronic transmission of results will occur via the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
