Shettima Alleges Plot to Undermine Tinubu's Candidacy

Alhaji Yerima Shettima, a candidate for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused certain individuals of plotting a consensus candidacy to weaken Bola Ahmed Tinubu's electoral prospects. In a statement made in Kaduna on Thursday, Shettima expressed concerns that this move could undermine the party's electoral fortunes and diminish its strength in future elections.

He criticized the endorsement of former senator Shehu Sani as a consensus candidate, labeling it undemocratic and harmful to the APC's unity. Shettima emphasized the need for a transparent and credible process to select candidates, advocating for direct primaries that would allow party members to freely choose their representatives.

He warned that attempts to impose candidates could deepen disaffection among loyal members and create divisions that might benefit opposition parties. Uba Sani, the APC governor, echoed these sentiments, calling for a level playing field for all aspirants in the race for the Kaduna Central senatorial ticket.
