Senate Summons Ex-NNPCL Executives Over N210tn Spending

The Nigerian Senate has summoned former executives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), including former Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari, former Chief Financial Officer Umar Isa, and former Group General Manager Bala Wunti, to account for an alleged N210 trillion expenditure from 2017 to 2023. The Senate committee, led by Chairman Aliyu Wadada, expressed dissatisfaction with the NNPCL's failure to provide satisfactory responses to 19 questions regarding its financial audit.

The committee has threatened to issue arrest warrants against the former executives if they fail to appear for further inquiries. Additionally, the NNPCL is under scrutiny for a questionable N5 billion expenditure related to a name change from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to NNPCL.

The committee's resolutions include demands for a forensic audit of NNPCL's financial statements and a call for reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in managing public funds.
