Senate Demands NNPCL Accountability for N210 Trillion

The Nigerian Senate has reignited its probe into the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), focusing on the unaccounted N210 trillion highlighted in an audit report covering the years 2017 to 2023. The Senate's Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, has mandated the current Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Bayo Ojulari, along with former GCEO Mele Kyari and former Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajia, to appear before them by April 29, 2026.

This decision follows a motion by Senator Osita Izunaso and was seconded by Senator Adam Oshiomhole. The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations provided by NNPCL regarding 19 queries related to the unaccounted funds, which they deemed unacceptable.

The committee expects detailed explanations concerning N103 trillion in liabilities and N107 trillion in expenditures. The Senate emphasized the importance of accountability and the need for NNPCL management to treat the matter with seriousness, as previous appearances have been lacking.
