Senate Summons NNPCL Executives Over N210 Trillion Audit

The Nigerian Senate has summoned Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), along with Umar Ajia, Chief Financial Officer, and Dr. Bala Wunti, General Manager of NAPIM, regarding unaccounted expenditures amounting to N210 trillion from 2017 to 2023.

The Senate committee, chaired by Senator Alidu Wadada, expressed dissatisfaction with the NNPCL's failure to provide satisfactory answers to 19 questions raised during an audit. The committee noted that N103 trillion was spent on joint venture cash calls, while N107 trillion was recorded in the financial statements.

The committee also questioned the N5 billion spent on rebranding the company from NNPC to NNPCL. The Senate has indicated that if the past management team fails to appear, it may issue arrest warrants.

The committee affirmed its legislative support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to ensure transparency and proper management of public funds.
