Senate to Focus on Bill Seeking PWD’s Access to Education, Jimoh Ibrahim Tells Commonwealth Parliament

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim informed the Commonwealth Parliament in Banjul, Gambia that the Nigerian Senate is focusing on a bill aimed at improving access to education for Persons with Disabilities (PWD). The bill also includes provisions for healthcare and sustainable living for PWDs.

Senator Ibrahim emphasized the importance of addressing disability as a societal challenge and urged for love and support to create a competitive and inclusive society. He highlighted the need for an egalitarian society to achieve sustainable development, recommending a balance of resources to tackle regional and ethnic complexities in Nigeria.

The Senator also stressed the importance of legislation to support gender equality and child welfare. Additionally, he called for measures to address economic shocks and climate disasters to prevent severe deprivation.

Senator Ibrahim urged the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to strengthen legislation to support executive actions in mitigating climate risks. He also expressed regret over the lack of data on PWDs, encouraging the government to create a data bank to better support this community.
