Senate President Akpabio Defends Rejection of Mandatory Electronic Transmission in Electoral Act

Senate President Godswill Akpabio responded to criticisms over the Senate's rejection of compulsory electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Akpabio, also the Chairman of INEC, emphasized the Senate's constitutional responsibilities, the need for a balanced law, and the challenges of real-time transmission in Nigeria's infrastructure.

He referenced the 2000 U.S. presidential election between George Bush and Al Gore to illustrate challenges in advanced democracies. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan reiterated the commitment to deploying technology for credible elections.
