Osuntokun Criticizes Nigerian Senate's Rejection of E-Transmission as Threat to Democracy

Mr. Osuntokun, a former Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, criticized the Nigerian Senate's rejection of electronic transmission of election results, describing it as a major setback to Nigeria's democratic growth.

Osuntokun, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed his concerns during an interview in Lagos. He argued that the rejection compromises electoral transparency, weakens the accountability system, and raises suspicions of potential electoral manipulation.

Osuntokun faulted the Senate for not providing a credible explanation for their decision, warning that it could lead to heightened tensions and voter apathy. The Senate passed the Electoral Act 2022 on Wednesday, rejecting proposed amendments that sought to make electronic transmission of results mandatory.
