Sadio Mane Retires from International Football Career

Sadio Mane, the Senegalese football icon, announced his retirement from international football on Friday, concluding a distinguished 14-year career with the Senegal National Football Team. The 34-year-old confirmed his decision following Senegal's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a dramatic 3-2 extra time defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32.

Mane made his senior debut for Senegal in 2012 and earned 130 international caps, playing a pivotal role in the country's rise in African and global football. His greatest achievement came in 2021 when he helped Senegal win its first Africa Cup of Nations title by defeating Egypt in the final.

Mane expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the Senegalese people throughout his career and acknowledged the importance of this support in motivating him. Although he is retiring from international play, Mane hopes to contribute to Senegalese football in the future in various capacities, including coaching and administrative roles.

He will continue his club career with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, where he is contracted until 2027.
