SERAP Sues INEC Over Alleged ₦800bn APC Fund Misuse

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has initiated legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The lawsuit seeks to compel INEC to investigate allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) diverted approximately ₦800 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for political activities related to the re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu.

SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, explained that the legal action became necessary due to INEC's failure to address reports of public fund misuse. The lawsuit demands a review of compliance with political campaign finance laws to ensure full disclosure of campaign funds, including the identification of donors and the exact sources of the money.

SERAP argues that the misuse of state resources for campaign activities threatens the integrity of the democratic process and calls for judicial intervention to promote transparency and accountability in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
