SERAP Demands INEC Probe into N800bn Political Fund

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate allegations that governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) diverted N800 billion for political campaign purposes. In a letter dated May 16, 2026, signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP emphasized the need for a prompt, thorough, and independent investigation into these claims, which raise serious concerns about political financing transparency and electoral integrity.

SERAP has urged INEC to compel full disclosure of the alleged contributions to the APC campaign fund, including the identities of donors and the origins of the funds. They also called for collaboration with anti-corruption law enforcement agencies to ensure sanctions against violations, including prosecution and fines.

SERAP warned that the misuse of public funds for political purposes undermines democratic integrity and public trust. They have given INEC seven days to respond, threatening legal action if there is no compliance.
