SERAP Urges INEC to Investigate N800bn Campaign Fund Diversion

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) diverted N800 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for political campaign purposes. In a letter dated May 16, 2026, signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP requested a thorough and independent investigation into these allegations.

The organization emphasized the need for full disclosure regarding the sources of campaign funds and urged INEC to take action within seven days, warning of potential legal proceedings if no response is received. SERAP's concerns stem from reports suggesting that the APC made monthly contributions from the federal account to fund President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign.

The organization highlighted the importance of transparency in political financing, citing constitutional provisions and international obligations to ensure public participation and the integrity of the electoral process.
