Williams Sisters Fall Short in US Open Doubles Return

Tennis legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams faced defeat in their return to the US Open women’s doubles, losing to Chan Hao-ching and Maya Joint in a thrilling three-set match on Friday. The final score was 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (10/7) at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

This match marked the sisters' first doubles competition together in Grand Slam events since the 2022 US Open. Venus, aged 46, and Serena, aged 44, last secured a doubles title together at the 2018 French Open.

After losing the first set, the Williams sisters rallied in the second, forcing a tiebreak and leveling the match. Despite a strong performance from Serena at the net, including powerful volleys, they struggled with their serve as the match progressed.

In the deciding set, Chan and Joint initially took a 4-2 lead, but the Williams sisters surged ahead 5-0 in the tiebreaker before ultimately losing 10-7. The match was significant as it was Serena's first appearance at the US Open since 2022.
