Serena Williams Returns to US Open for Mixed Doubles

Serena Williams will make her competitive return to tennis at the US Open, partnering with defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles championship. This will be Williams' first match at Flushing Meadows since her loss to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round in 2022.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) granted a wild card entry to the duo. Although Williams has returned to tennis this summer, she will not participate in the women's singles event, as the final wild card was given to Sofia Kenin.

Jamie Murray commented on Williams' absence from singles, noting uncertainty about her physical readiness to compete. Alcaraz, who has been sidelined since April due to a right wrist injury, announced his return to defend his singles title.

Other notable pairings include Aryna Sabalenka with Novak Djokovic and Jessica Pegula with Taylor Fritz, following withdrawals from their previous partners.
