Shakira and Burna Boy Shine at World Cup Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup took place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where music superstars Shakira and Burna Boy performed the tournament anthem "Dai Dai" in front of an audience of 80,000. Salma Hayek Pinault, the World Cup ambassador, welcomed fans and set a vibrant tone for the festivities.

The ceremony also featured Vicente Fernández leading the national anthem, while South African star Tyla performed her country's anthem. The opening match saw Mexico triumph over South Africa with a score of 2-0, marked by a fiercely contested game that resulted in three red cards—two for Mexico's César Mont and one for South Africa's Yaya Sithol.

This tournament marks Mexico's third time hosting the World Cup, previously hosting in 1970 and 1986, setting the stage for a month-long celebration of football across the continent.
