Shehu Sani Announces 2027 Senate Candidacy for Kaduna Central

Shehu Sani has officially announced his intention to contest for the Kaduna Central Senate seat in the 2027 general elections. This declaration was made public through a report obtained via Verifi.

Sani previously served as the senator for Kaduna Central from 2015 to 2019 but lost his re-election bid due to a fallout with Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The rift was exacerbated by disagreements over policies, including urban renewal initiatives and a contentious $350 million World Bank loan sought by the Kaduna State government, which Sani opposed, warning it could lead to a debt trap.

In the 2019 primaries, Sani's request for an automatic ticket was rejected by the state chapter of the APC, led by El-Rufai, resulting in a parallel primary that produced Uba Sani as the candidate. After a failed senatorial bid with the People's Redemption Party (PRP), Sani has returned to the APC to reclaim his former seat in the National Assembly.
