The photos, purportedly showing Gumi being detained by US soldiers at an airport, were described by Gumi as fake and illogical, stating that the US military cannot arrest individuals in Nigeria. He emphasized that the images were digitally fabricated and urged the public not to believe the false reports.

Gumi clarified that he was not arrested and highlighted that the allegations were entirely untrue. The cleric addressed the media to debunk the claims and stressed that the circulated images were part of a misinformation campaign.

The reports falsely suggested Gumi's involvement in a foreign-led counterterrorism mission on Nigerian soil, which he vehemently denied.
