Shell Restarts Bonga Field After Successful Maintenance

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited announced the resumption of production at the Bonga Deepwater Field after completing a major maintenance turnaround on March 6, 2026. The maintenance project, which began on February 1, 2026, was completed 11 days ahead of schedule without any safety incidents.

The project involved approximately 1,000 personnel offshore, with 95 percent being Nigerian. Ronald Adam, the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria, emphasized the successful completion of the project as a testament to the dedication of the Nigerian workforce and the support of various partners.

He noted that 55 companies were involved in executing the project, with 43 being wholly Nigerian firms. The maintenance exercise also contributed to knowledge transfer and increased local investment.

Adam acknowledged the support from several stakeholders, including the NNPC, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board, which were crucial for the successful execution of the maintenance exercise.
