Shettima Launches NELMCO HQ, Promises Power Reforms

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the new headquarters of the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) in Abuja. He assured Nigerians of the government's commitment to reforming the power sector under President Bola Tinubu's administration to improve electricity supply nationwide.

Shettima highlighted the importance of energy security for national development and warned against mishandling the sector, which requires transparency and accountability. He described NELMCO as a key institution in addressing long-standing challenges in the electricity industry and emphasized the need for private investors and international partners to create a transparent and investor-friendly environment.

The Vice President also noted that NELMCO has a significant role in managing legacy liabilities, with the federal government having a revenue excess of over N30 billion. The ongoing reforms include decentralization and liberalization of the electricity sector, which is crucial for unlocking its full potential and ensuring economic benefits, particularly for small and medium enterprises.
