Shettima Returns from BRICS Summit, Strengthens Ties with India

Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Nigeria after attending the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During the summit, Shettima engaged in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria's trade, investment, and technological ties with India and other emerging economies.

A significant meeting was held with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on enhancing economic and diplomatic relations, particularly in sectors such as crude oil trade, pharmaceuticals, defence, digital technology, financial technology, and renewable energy. Shettima also met with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, to discuss international trade and the need for developing countries to have a stronger voice in global economic governance.

At the summit, Shettima conveyed President Tinubu's call for reforms in global governance structures and presented Nigeria as a strategic gateway to Africa's expanding market, particularly within the African Continental Free Trade Area.
