Shettima Advocates for Action Against Xenophobia at AU Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria following his participation in the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) held in Luanda, Angola. Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at this summit, where he engaged in high-level discussions.

During the summit, Nigeria called for immediate continental action to address the ongoing xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks on Africans and other nationals in South Africa. Additionally, Nigeria advocated for the establishment of stronger African-led mechanisms aimed at conflict prevention and resolution.

Shettima expressed Nigeria's support for the Luanda Action Plan and emphasized the need for sustainable financing for Africa's peace and security architecture. He also called for greater collective responsibility among AU member states and stronger African ownership of solutions to conflicts across the continent.
