Sightsavers Leads Successful Trachoma Elimination in Kaduna State Ceremony Celebrates Decade of Efforts

Sightsavers led Kaduna in eliminating trachoma, a leading cause of blindness, with a ceremony celebrating the successful intervention after a decade of concerted efforts. Teyil Mshelia, the Country Coordinator for Trachoma at Sightsavers, highlighted the achievement as a testament to years of commitment.

Kaduna State, where Sightsavers began its work in Nigeria, has met the World Health Organization's requirements to ensure trachoma is no longer a threat. The success was attributed to intensive awareness campaigns, local capacity building, and community ownership.
