Atlético Madrid Loses Copa del Rey Final to Real Sociedad

Atlético Madrid faced Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, where they suffered a defeat in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. Ademola Lookman had a bright start, scoring in the 18th minute to equalize after Ander Barrenetxea's opening goal.

However, Real Sociedad regained the lead through a penalty converted by Mikel Oyarzabal after Juan Musso fouled Gonçalo Guedes. Coach Diego Simeone replaced Lookman shortly after the hour mark, a decision that drew scrutiny as Atlético struggled to create clear chances.

The match went into extra time after Julián Álvarez equalized in the 83rd minute, but neither team scored in the additional 30 minutes. The final was decided by penalties, where Real Sociedad triumphed 4-3.

Despite the loss, Lookman strengthened his influence at the club, finishing the season with 11 goals and becoming the first Nigerian to score in a Copa del Rey final since Finidi George in 1997. Atlético Madrid's focus now shifts to the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Arsenal on April 29.
