Sokoto State Government Enhances School Health Measures

The Sokoto State Government has issued a directive to schools across the state to strengthen preventive measures in light of reported diphtheria cases in neighboring states. This directive was communicated by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala.

He emphasized the need for school principals and authorities to monitor the health of students and staff closely, urging them to report any suspected cases promptly. The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Muhammad Iya, stated that principals must report any unusual symptoms to the nearest health facility and the ministry for immediate attention.

Symptoms of diphtheria include sore throat, hoarseness, mild fever, swollen glands, and difficulty swallowing or breathing. The ministry advised referring anyone exhibiting these symptoms to health facilities such as Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital and others.

Additionally, schools were encouraged to promote hygiene practices and parents were urged to ensure their children receive vaccinations. The health and safety of students and staff remain a priority for the Sokoto State Government.
