Sokoto State to Revive Historical Sites and Ban Lavish Pre-Wedding Ceremonies

The Sokoto State government, led by Governor Ahmad Aliyu, announced plans to revive major historical and cultural sites across the state to enhance tourism and generate revenue. This initiative includes the restoration and improvement of historical sites to preserve the rich history of Sokoto.

The governor also disclosed intentions to ban lavish pre-wedding ceremonies to curb rising marriage costs and societal problems caused by extravagant spending. The government will enforce existing laws to ensure compliance with the ban and seek support from parents, Islamic scholars, and traditional rulers.

Notably, the governor inaugurated the remodeled Zawiyatu Sheikh Aliyu Bunza and emphasized the importance of promoting Islamic affairs, including mosque construction and Quranic education. Various stakeholders, including Sheikh Aminu Wali Ayu and Prof. Sambo Junaid, praised the governor's efforts in developing Islamic institutions.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, also commended the government's initiatives aligned with traditional and religious values.
