Nigerian Military Leaders Accused of Profiting from Insecurity

During a press conference held on Tuesday, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju accused certain Nigerian military leaders of profiting from the country's insecurity. He urged critics to scrutinize the security situation, arguing that the persistent violence cannot be explained without international collaboration.

Adeyanju referenced the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, recalling how the government resorted to hiring foreign mercenaries during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency, which led to swift territorial recoveries. He expressed concern over alleged corruption within the military hierarchy, highlighting ongoing investigations into unexplained wealth among top officers and questioning the diversion of funds meant for combating insurgency.

Adeyanju further argued that the continued violence benefits those controlling the security budget, suggesting a systemic issue within the military's approach to the crisis.
