Sophos Report: 58% of Retailers Pay Ransomware Demands

Sophos, a global cybersecurity leader, published its fifth annual "State of Ransomware in Retail" report, revealing that 58% of retailers affected by ransomware opted to pay the ransom to decrypt their data. The report highlighted a growing trend of attacks exploiting unknown security gaps, with 46% of incidents attributed to such vulnerabilities.

The median ransom demand has doubled to $2 million by 2024, showcasing the escalating financial impact on businesses. Chester Wisniewski, Sophos' Director of Global Field CISO, emphasized the need for comprehensive security strategies to combat the evolving threat landscape in the retail sector.
