African Nations Seek Fuel Supply from Dangote Refinery

Amid global fuel supply disruptions linked to ongoing conflicts, several African countries, including South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya, are approaching Dangote Petroleum Refinery for fuel supply security. The refinery, owned by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, has received multiple inquiries from governments seeking alternative fuel sources.

South Africa is reportedly seeking a 12-month supply contract. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has raised concerns about fuel supply chains, particularly affecting Eastern and Southern Africa, which relies on the region for 75% of its refined fuel imports.

A statement from the South African government indicated engagement with stakeholders to secure crude oil and diversify sources to manage potential supply risks. Despite concerns, South African authorities believe there will be sufficient fuel in the coming weeks, and Kenya has indicated no immediate threat of shortages.

The Dangote refinery is expected to play a key role in alleviating supply pressures, with 75% of its output reserved for domestic use while the remainder is available for export.
