South Africa to Replace Morocco as Host of 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations

South Africa is stepping in to host the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations after Morocco withdrew as the host just 60 days before the tournament was scheduled to kick off. The decision to replace Morocco was announced by South Africa's Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Peac Mabe.

The sudden withdrawal of Morocco, which had initially been set to host the tournament from March 17 to April 3, 2026, is believed to be linked to heightened domestic tensions and disciplinary actions following the Men's Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa, known for its women's football prowess, will now have a tight window to prepare for the tournament.

The 2026 edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations will feature an expanded 16-team format, with the top four semi-finalists qualifying automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
