Super Falcons Prepare for WAFCON as Morocco Seeks Tournament Postponement

The Nigerian women's national football team, the Super Falcons, under the leadership of head coach Justin Madugu, is preparing intensively for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The team will commence training camp on February 20 in Abuja before traveling to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, to participate in the WAFU B Invitational Tournament alongside Ghana and Senegal from February 27 to March 7.

The tournament serves as part of the team's competitive run ahead of the WAFCON. However, uncertainties loom over the tournament's schedule as Morocco, the host nation, has formally requested a postponement citing fixture congestion and operational challenges within its domestic football calendar.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to issue an official response, with ongoing consultations to potentially revise the competition timeline. The 2026 WAFCON will serve as a qualifying route for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, with four semi-finalists securing automatic tickets to the global showpiece.
