South African Footballer Jayden Adam Found Dead at 25

Jayden Adam, a 25-year-old central midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns and a player for South Africa's national team, was found dead in his home in Schotschekloof, Cape Town, on Saturday morning. The cause of death remains unclear, and the Western Cape police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Adam had participated in two matches during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, where South Africa was eliminated after a defeat to Canada. His death comes less than a month after the passing of his grandmother.

Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, expressed profound shock at Adam's passing and appealed for privacy for his family during this difficult time. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also expressed condolences, stating that Adam would be sorely missed by the global football community.

Adam was a graduate of the Stellenbosch FC academy and joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January of the previous year, winning a premiership title and a CAF Champions League crown.
