South Africa's Consul General Advocates for Reconciliation

Professor Bobby J. Moroe, the Consul General of South Africa in Lagos, urged for healing and reconciliation between Nigeria and South Africa during his keynote speech at the Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast Forum in Lagos.

He addressed the recent anti-migrant violence in South Africa, stating that the perpetrators do not represent the true spirit of the nation. Moroe highlighted that the South African government has condemned these acts and arrested over 80 suspects across six provinces, promising prosecution.

He emphasized the need for both countries to work together towards a better future, especially in July, a month dedicated to the late President Nelson Mandela. Moroe noted that the South African constitution protects all migrants and criticized the vigilante groups for their illegal actions.

He reflected on the 32 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and South Africa, urging both nations to remember their shared history of solidarity and sacrifice.
