South Sudan President Kiir Dismisses Central Bank Governor

South Sudan President Salva Kiir announced the removal of Central Bank Governor Ohisa, effective immediately, and appointed Addis Ababa Othow as his replacement. Othow previously held the position of central bank governor from June to November of the previous year.

The announcement did not provide an official reason for Ohisa's dismissal. This change is part of a series of recent alterations in senior government roles, which political analysts interpret as efforts by President Kiir to consolidate power amid uncertainties regarding political succession.

Ohisa, an economist, had been reappointed as central bank governor earlier this year after serving two separate terms in the role. South Sudan continues to face significant economic difficulties, including declining oil revenues, persistent cash shortages, rising inflation, and the depreciation of its national currency.
