South-West States Declare Holiday For Isese Festival

South-West states have declared a holiday for the Isese Festival, a traditional Yoruba celebration. Lagos Governor Bode Agoro announced the holiday, in line with the state's cultural policy, with work resuming on August 21.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun also declared a holiday, following a resolution by the State House of Assembly. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde approved the holiday to allow traditional religion worshippers to mark the occasion.

Similarly, Osun State declared a public holiday, reflecting a commitment to honoring cultural heritage. The Isese Day has become an annual symbol of Yoruba cultural pride and inclusivity, with a growing call for wider adoption across Nigeria.

The holiday is meant for reflection, prayer, peace, unity, and stability.
