Sowore Urges Facebook to Reject DSS Request, Defend Freedom of Expression

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has written to Facebook, urging the platform to reject a request from the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) to ban or deactivate his account. The DSS demanded the action following Sowore's critical posts about President Bola Tinubu.

Sowore's lawyer argued that the request violates his client's freedom of expression. The DSS had written to Facebook on September 7, 2025, seeking the immediate deactivation of Sowore's account.

Sowore, the publisher of SaharaReporters, and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), is known for his activism and criticism of the Nigerian government.
